Australia's chair of selectors George Bailey has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming historic rivalry.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on November 21 in Western Australia.

The selector shared that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about his chances of being involved.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and various factors around that, not just the physical problem, but further aspects," he commented.

"It's positive. There's strong faith that he will feature a key capacity. Ideally from the opening match. Otherwise, then we'll pick it up."

The captain missed the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand recently after medical tests showed a lower back issue.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons forcing him out of multiple domestic campaigns in a short span.

Cummins stated he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to make the squad for the Ashes.

He mentioned that he did not know if Cummins had begun bowling as part of his recovery but admitted it was "pressing" for him to recover fully for the first Test.

Alternative Arrangements

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

Versatile player Green was withdrawn recently from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against India as a preventive step because of soreness in his side.

The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and stated that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "ideally positioned to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the first Test as an dual-role player," he elaborated.

"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs in any case. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, the choice was made to adopt a safer strategy."
